The city of Chilliwack in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia has made a commitment to public art that has resonated strongly with almost every merchant in the revitalized downtown area known as Five Corners. The image above was recently installed on an alley wall of an historic art deco building that dates back to 1930, now home to a newly opened Italian restaurant.
The building was named for the Skelton family, longtime business owners in the city, hence the name given to the alley. The interior of the restaurant is lavishly illustrated with oversize black and white reproductions of Italian film stars. The outside wall that forms part of Skelton Alley features this provocative image of a young woman daring to eat pasta by hand.
