My current typewriter, a manual Hermes 3000 in beautiful condition, was a gift from a friend who collected and repaired dozens. This one had cost him $25, and untold hours of restoration. It was built in 1957 and came with its own lockable carrying case.
Whenever I use the Hermes, old feelings flood the mind and heart: the tactile pleasure, the ritual of inserting paper one sheet at a time, the soft chatter of the keys, the rhythm of work, and the occasional page typed without err0r: all this delivers limitless satisfaction. It also shows down the writing, which is a good thing.
