This is a Wood Bison, living in a protected area of Elk Island National Park in Northern Alberta. Once nearly extinct, their numbers have increased substantially over the decades, due to efforts from Parks Canada and initiatives from Indigenous nations. The Wood Bison is the largest and heaviest land animal in North America; an adult male easily tops 2200 pounds.
