This is a famous piece of artillery, introduced by the British early in World War 2, as a replacement for a smaller piece from the Great War. It is massively heavy, weighing almost two tons, capable of firing a shell up to 13,000 yards (that’s more than 7 miles!). It was fondly referred to as “The 25 Pounder”. Manned by one Officer and five supporting soldiers, the Howitzer was a deadly weapon.
This one was given by the British Government to Canada in recognition of our contribution to the war, and has been on display in White Rock since 1972. It is in splendid condition.
