The alley off Russell Street in White Rock is scarcely one hundred yards long, and appears to be used only by the occasional shopper who is taking a short cut back to their vehicle. The alley is simply a path between two somewhat decrepit buildings, but that created an opportunity for local artist Elizabeth Hollick. The project? – a series of six colourful murals she entitled ‘Postcards’. They were inspired, she said, by uptown shop windows. The murals adjoin each other and encompass the entire length of the alley. “Photographic Memories” is the fourth of the six images.
Elizabeth studied visual arts at Croydon College of Art and St. Martin’s School of Art in London, England. She has created murals for buildings throughout White Rock, Surrey, and Vancouver, and is also known for her large-scale sand sculptures and detailed murals of landscape, architecture and human anatomy.
The above work was completed in 2009, and has withstood the elements to look as fresh and vibrant in 2026 as it did back then.
