
The side streets on the Mexican island of Isla Mujeres are a hive of activity from morning until night, alive with the mingling of locals and tourists. The name of the island translates as “the isle of women”, and was conferred by European explorers centuries ago.
Isla has a reputation as an unspoiled paradise for its long sandy beaches, the deepest turquoise blue waters imaginable, and a slower sense of time. Ferry boats arrive daily from nearby Cancun, carrying day-trippers from Germany, Australia, Canada and across the globe in search of an island adventure.
