Sunset on Isla Mujeres

The name Isla Mujeres was given by the Spanish in the 16th century. It means “The Island of Women” and commemorates the Mayan sanctuary devoted to Ixchel, goddess of the moon.

The island is a spectacular setting just off the coast of Cancun. North Beach is famous for its sun, sand and surf. Every day hundreds of tourists take the ferry from the mainland to spend time on this unspoiled wonder.

The weather ranges from tropical paradise to Hurricane Central. The sunsets? – glorious.
