It was impossible for us to walk past a little clearing in a dense urban forest without noticing two large stumps covered in moss. At first glance we thought this were the remains of two separate trees, but closer examination revealed they had once been a single specimen that had been torn by nature into an unusual configuration. Their shapes are strangely reminiscent of humans dancing. Research indicates that plants and trees do communicate with each other on a cellular level.
A late 20th century book called The Secret Life of Plants claimed that plants were sentient, capable of deliberate action, and experienced emotion. Recent science has found that they generate electrical signals, which have been used by contemporary composers in the creation of music. The process is called Bio-Sonification.
There is indeed something joyful and musical in the sight of these dancing forms.
