This image is useful in the depiction of what film camera enthusiasts refer to as bokeh – the facility to blur the foreground, the background, or both, while retaining a sharp focus on the desired area. The resulting image will display a sense of depth and set a tone or mood. The term is derived from the Japanese word “boke” which means “blur”.
While high end digital cameras allow bokeh settings, such results can only be simulated (and approximated) with compact digital or smartphone cameras.
