This image was converted from colour to black and white, something that is easily done with today’s software. There was no need for cropping or alteration of exposure and/ or contrast settings. The appeal of colour is the primary component in the original image: the beautiful red brick, the towering green conifers, and the crystalline blue sky contribute to create a memorable picture.
What a black and white image reveals in the conversion are the elements of composition such as form, texture, line and symmetry.
The strength of black and white photography lies in revealing those elements while displaying the depth and shades possible from a limited palette.
