America’s Finest Low-Priced Car, A Handsome Stately Sedan

Close inspection of the insignia on the bumper reveals identity to be that of a Pontiac Deluxe, probably from 1937.

Inspired by the work of Walker Evans, I returned to this farmhouse for a follow-up session in black and white.

The occupation of farming is still known as “next year country”, a term that originated on the Canadian prairies.

This was one of my earliest lessons in photography – that good pictures were to be found in the most ordinary of circumstances.

The scene commanded more than one visit and never failed to disappoint this aficionado of the discarded.
