One could line up at The Louvre in Paris for hours and then mill about in crowds so thick you never get close to the exhibits. Or you could skip the lineups altogether and visit the Musée d’Orsay, a converted train station that has become an incredible museum. The focus is on Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art and sculpture. You’ll see, close up, works by Manet, Renoir, Van Gogh and Degas and much more.
The building is as magnificent as the art . As for The Louvre, it was originally designed to accommodate between four and five million visitors per year; in 2025 more than nine million crowded their halls. Quiet corners could readily be found every day of the year at Musée d’Orsay.
