Having never travelled outside of North America, my first trip to Europe surprised me in many ways. The cities and towns were smaller, closer together, and beautifully kept. It was a photographer’s paradise, considering that anything much more than one hundred years old in Canada was considered worthy only of demolition and replacement. Most cities in Canada looked as though they had been founded in 1957.
A short excursion out of Amsterdam brought me to this working windmill. It was several hundred years old, still earning its keep, still providing beauty to the landscape. This image was all that I brought back with me from Europe, and it has turned out to be plenty.
