Millions of people from around the world visit Niagara Falls in Ontario every year and are amazed at the spectacle.
What is lesser known, but more spectacular, is located just 15 minutes out of Quebec City. Montmorency Falls is higher, much higher, than Niagara Falls – reaching a towering height of 83 meters (272 feet) versus the Niagara Falls height of 53 meters (that’s 90 feet lower for those not familiar with the metric system).
And – as one can see from the photo, a visitor gets to stand much closer to the Montmorency Falls than at Niagara.
The resulting sound is over-powering, and the experience exhilarating. If you’re feeling truly inspired by the site, you can climb a panoramic staircase: it will take you up 487 steps to the summit. From there you can gaze down at the less-adventurous crowd below.
