I visited the Musée d’Orsay Museum in Paris some years ago, and was struck by the collection of paintings by Claude Monet, one of the chief architects of French Impressionism. He painted more than 300 images of his own gardens and lily pond at Giverny. For decades white lilies had dominated French gardens. Monet introduced coloured varieties into his pond and particularly loved the red and pink ones, which are the most delicate.
It was almost by accident that I discovered this pond along the Harrison River in British Columbia. Fortunately I had my camera with me that day as the blossoms appear and disappear quickly. The resulting image is a tribute to that famous French painter.
