Granville Island in Vancouver is well known as a tourist destination for its collection of trendy restaurants, shops and street performers. Its origins remain, however, as a working waterfront, leading from False Creek to Burrard Inlet and on through to the Pacific Ocean.
A leading employer on the island, Ocean Concrete, commissioned Brazilian twins Gustavo and Otavio Pandolfo, known collectively as OSGEMEOS (Portuguese for THETWINS) to design and paint this row of six silos with their famed graffiti skills. Their series entitled “The Giants” spans the globe and this is one of their most famous; the silos are 70 feet high and consumed 1400 cans of spray paint.
The project was completed in 2014 and was scheduled to be removed after a couple of years, but the public won’t let it go. It brings a smile to every face.
